Gum kind: summary of the different intended styls of a gum

With gum: postage stamp issued with gum as intended style

Without gum: postage stamp issued with-out gum as intended style. This will only be shown when the same postage stamp was also issued with gum

Water-activated gum: postage stamp issued with gum whose is activated by the addition of moisture

Self-adhesive gum: postage stamp that adheres to a carrier film with an adhesive layer on the back that can be removed and stuck to a postal shipment

Hand gum: gum that was applied manually (e.g. with brushes)

Machine gum: gum that was applied by machine

Gum colour: colour name a gum is made off (e.g. red)

Gum colour shade: colour shade name a gum is made off

Visible gum: with the naked eye visible gum

Dry gum: with the naked eye not visible gum which penetrates into the paper and therefore looks dull and rough (invisible gum)

Full gum: postage stamp that was provided with a full gum as intended style

Partial gum: postage stamp with a partially gum as intended style (e.g. post office logo)

Economy gum: gum in which circular areas were cut out using a template to save raw materials

Smooth gum: gum that has a smooth surface

Corrugated gum: mechanical breaking of a gum by patterned rollers to prevent the paper from curling

Granular gum: gum with components that are not completely mixed and still contain so-called grains

Broken gum: intentionally caused slight damage to a gum in form of cracks to prevent the paper from curling

Cracked gum: gum that is riddled with cracks due to the formation of tension during drying

Water-soluble gum: gum that can be dissolved in water allowing a postage stamp to be removed from its base

Water-insoluble gum: gum that cannot be dissolved in water meaning that a cancelled postage stamp cannot be removed from its base

Fluorescent gum: gum with a chemical additive that glows under short-wave UV light

Gum containing sulfuric acid: gum that contains traces of sulfuric acid which attacks the paper and turns it brown

Gum with peppermint flavor: gum with added flavor (peppermint) so that postal customers taste it a little better

Kosher gum: gum that was produced according to the traditional religious regulations of the Jewish dietary law
